Checking In :: 6 Months of Reegan

Well, I don’t have any idea how it happened so quickly, but here we are… 6 months in with this sweet sweet angel baby. So, how is it? How am I? How is she? Is she sleeping?  Here we go…

Saying: There’s a lot of baby babble going on, but no words yet. Every day she finds a new sound and usually repeats that a thousand times. Her favorite thing is when I pretend to gobble her neck. I don’t know why, but it makes her laugh. She definitely is learning the crying is her way of saying “Hell No” to things.

Eating: Reegan is still primarily breastfed. When people (usually my mom) ask me how long I’m going to continue nursing, I usually say “I don’t know… forever?!” Right now it feels that way. If you’ve been following along  (Snapchat: CandaceCottet) you know that I wasn’t sure on breastfeeding before she was born. It’s been a natural progression, and we have been so lucky to have such a smooth journey. But because of the smoothness of my journey, I have no idea when you stop? I don’t want to give her cow’s milk (like ever) so the transition will be interesting for sure. Motherhood is just constant learning. I’m surprised daily by what questions I face, but if there is one thing I have learned in the last 6 months, it’s TRUST YOUR GUT! Having said that, Reegs is randomly having some foods. A few organic pouches, and some Baby Led Weaning methods. I just bought quinoa cereal, which she had zero interest in. So far couscous, watermelon, and broccoli are winning in her book, but nothing has beat the boob.

Sleeping: So, last weekend I saw two of my girlfriends and we were chatting about sleeping and co-sleeping, and breastfeeding, and the ridiculousness of pretending like we actually have it figured out. One of them said, “People ask me how many times a night he wakes up to feed. I’m always like, ‘I don’t know.. 70? Does 70 sound right?!” I laughed so hard. Then my mother-in-law asked how many times Reegs was nursing at night, and I said, “I have no idea, I just sleep topless and she finds my boobs.” (I think that stunned her a little.) So, that’s where we are with that. And yes, I have heard that if I add in more food she might sleep more, or formula, or other magic potions. She hates the Magic Sleep Suit with her whole being, and the sound machines and aquariums do nothing for her. Reegan knows what she wants, she does not falter, she has a stronger will than both of us combined. She wants our bed, and my boobs. And there’s no getting in between her and that. When she has those things, she sleeps wonderfully. My doctor says she will eventually eat, and sleep, and go to college and it’s no big deal. So I’m just going to go with that.

Doing/Latest Biggest Milestone: Playing is finally a thing! Like sitting and playing with a toy! I have been waiting for this moment. She can sit up completely. She can grab and reach and PLAY WITH THINGS. She can get on her hands and knees and ALMOST crawl. ALMOST! It’s more like propelling and launching herself forward, but this chickadee thinks she can walk. Her favorite thing to do is for us to hold her hands and let her wander around. My mom and MIL got her a walker at each of their houses. She is so obsessed, we ordered her one for here. She is also giggling and LOVES the ring of FaceTime.

Favorite toy: Honestly, my iPhone charger. It’s awful. But her favorite toy she can actually play with? Walkers, her glow worm, and her bunny. Other than that, mainly tags. She loves anything with a tag. Oh. And the cat’s toys. Lovely.

Sweetest thing she does: She a cuddle-er. Thank goodness! She loves a good snuggle. She giggles at us with pure joy. And when we walk in the room, or my husband comes home from work, she just lights up. It’s incredible. And she wakes up like morning sunshine. She opens her eyes, looks around, and just beams from ear to ear. Especially if she is in bed with both of us.

Favorite part about this age: She is so loving and so alert. She’s a perfect little person. Her soul and personality are beginning to come into play and it fills me up! I can’t wait to see what’s next. Well, I can wait a few weeks because my baby proofing stuff hasn’t come in yet.
