Ordering From Select Blinds | How To Measure and Mount

We currently have 4 gorgeous Roman Shades from Select Blinds hangin in our home and we will be ordering at least 4 more.

Having ordering several times and heard back from some of you, I wanted to share the best tips to ordering these custom shades.

Before You Buy From SelectBlinds!

How To Measure Your Select Blinds Roman Shades!

Outside Mount:

If you have trim around your window, account for that and add 2 inches to the height. The outside mount mechanism will get in the way with the trim and you need room for it to clear the trim or you will end up having to shim the shades like we did. Which isn’t as easier and their intended installation.

I would also account for a slight over hang on the sides of the window and an inch or two drop below the window. When our shades are pulled down, the trim peeks out just a little bit. I love it that way.

Inside Mount:

The measurements you give come in EXACT. And guess what, nothing in your house is square. Measure the window width at several points and pick the smallest measurement. You don’t want the shade to be busting out, but the way that the shade mounts, you have a teeny bit of give to center it.

The mount for the inside mount is tucked between the top of the shade and the bottom of the window frame. Once hung, you will not see anything hardware.

The best place for an inside mount is where you may have curtains draping the outside of the window. We love the outside mount in places where we will not be adding curtains.

Valance or No Valance?

Our first shade is an inside mount and we went with no valance. We regret that. The valance is a gorgeous finishing touch. In our opinion it’s 100% worth the extra few bucks to go with the 6″ valance.

How To Install Your SelectBlinds Roman Shades

Select Blinds makes it really easy to mount the shades. It’s exactly the same mount whether it’s inside or outside.

The roman shade header has 2-4 mounting holes depending on the size. You screw an L bracket on to the wall or up into the window frame, and these screws (attached to the brackets) pop into the holes in the shade header and you use wing nuts to secure the shade in place.

Deals on Deals!

SelectBlinds is regularly hosting sales. So don’t fret while you measure and order. Take your time to do it right. I guarantee it’s worth the wait. Their customer service is good but their social media service is better. If you have questions, ask!

Here is how we messed up our measurements and ended up having to add a block to the mount and go over the trim.
