Hilarious Trolls Family Costume DIY | Poppy, Cloud Guy, and Bridget!

poppy-costume

It only made sense to do a Trolls Family Costume last year. Trolls has played on our Netflix approximately 37,857 times. Poppy is a very popular costume, but DIYing it can make it unique and hilarious!

I’ll break it down quick for you, because you probably have a 2-3 year old daughter and that means you have no more than 45 seconds to do anything uninterrupted…

I will link everything shop-able below.

My husband was the Cloud Guy, I was Bridget, And Reegan was Poppy.

Everything You Need for a Poppy Costume!

This was the first thing I have ever “sewn”. I made the dress out of felt using one of her other dresses to trace out the silhouette. I was thrilled with how it came out. And I will tell you this… It’s worth a shot trying to make your daughter’s costume because you feel like a super mom when they light up with excitement in it.

I put some hot pink leggings and a hot pink shirt underneath and grabbed her wig at Target. Done!

If you are wanting to make the Poppy dress, head to Joann’s Fabric! I grabbed blue felt to add stiffness, some sparkly white fabrics for the bottom details and grabbed this sewing machine on Amazon to pull it together.

This sewing machine was under $20, and the amount of belief I had in my sewing abilities long term. It worked surprisingly well.

Not Into Full DIY for Poppy?

If making the dress from scratch makes your skin crawl, grab one of these and some white fabric or ribbon to fabric glue on and call it a day.

Cloud Guy Trolls Costume DIY Pieces

For Cloud Guy, we grabbed an oversized white hoodie, chopped off the sleeves, and glued Poly-Fil to it. Paired with blue running tights and a dry fit long sleeve, it was the talk of the neighborhood.

Reegan was in absolute awe that her dad had turned into Cloud Guy. My heart melted all over the floor all night. I have never had a better Halloween in my life than watching them walk around together in perfect bliss.

Vintage Finds for Bridget!

For my Bridget costume, I wanted to keep life simple. I had sewed and glued and I was over it. Etsy was the perfect place to grab an old blush frumpy 80’s dress. eBay would work too. For the apron, shoes, and petticoat I used pieces from my past Toddlers & Tiaras and Alice in Wonderland costumes to finish it off.

It was my favorite Halloween and the most relaxed of my recent years. We did a little neighborhood trick or treating and laughed our pants off. I highly suggest turning a 6ft tall man into a cloud and a tiny girl into Poppy. I could not have cared what I was dressed like. It was heaven-sent.
