My mother always said, “The holiday only exists if you create it.” In 2020, I am wholeheartedly keeping that idea in the front of my mind. Sure 2020 is the year of smaller guests list, but it’s also the year of finding the sparkle where we can.
When World of Illumination reached out, I immediately was filled with excitement to take the girls on a socially distanced magical car ride.
What is World of Illumination?
World of Illumination is a drive-through choreographed light show with locations in Arizona and Georgia. Here in Atlanta, World of Illumination has set up shop in Six Flags White Water’s parking lot. A convenient location off I-75, exit 265.
A roughly 15 to 20 minute drive through the park, World of Illumination has thousands and thousands of lights synced to a local radio station. Watching the girls watch the light dance was incredible. We even spotted Santa in a snow flurry. Keep your eyes open!
If you are in the West Cobb or Kennesaw area of Atlanta, this is a great addition to your holiday schedule. Especially if you have kiddos under 10 years old or a couple of teens loving a good social media post.

How Do Tickets to World of Illumination Work?
Tickets are by car! Meaning you can fill up a carload, or pull together some friends for a pickup truck hayride and make for a fun sing-a-long.
Best Tips for Your World of Illumination Experience
Grab a festive treat before you head in.
We stopped at Starbucks for hot chocolate to sip and a snowman cookie to snack on. The kids didn’t sit still through the park much, however is was nice to distract them with on your way and keep the spirit going.
Pre-think your ride.
Many had their kiddos peeking through their sunroofs. A pickup truck would be my vehicle of choice. There is a Northern Tool across the street if you want to park your car and hop in the back of a friend’s truck. I love the idea of doing this as a safe and slow hayride. Note that limos, buses, and RVs are not allowed.
Make a night of it.
While World of Illumination is delightful, it’s not going to take up a ton of time (a bonus in my opinion). It’s a great place to go on the way home from a holiday errand or socially distanced gathering. You idle through the spectacle in roughly 15-20 minutes. If you live in the area, stopping in multiple times would be extra festive throughout the holiday season.
They give out 3D glasses!
The kids loved to take them on and off and spot the differences. The experience is equally enjoyable with or without the 3D glasses.
Make sure your FM radio is working.
The best part is the lights is that they are synced to the music. I could’ve sat there for an hour. Without a working radio, you’ll be bummed. It’s really fun to watch the lights dance to classics such as Hark of The Bells, or modern holiday music by Owl City. If you want to keep the music going after the park, Sirus XM 105 has modern holiday music.
