I have been incredibly inspired by Modern English Cottage decor lately. Country patterns and vintage accents with space for minimal peacefulness. When Reegan moved into her own room, I wanted it to feel like a lavender-scented hug.
What is the English Country Style?
English Country style can best be envisioned with floral pattern play, antique wood furniture, crisp euro pillows, and billowing fabrics. English Country is usually more functional and cozy than other decor styles. Think blackout curtains you’ll own forever. You’re grandmother’s handed down dresser. Flowers from the garden.

Where Do You Start With Your Design?
For this room, I started with the lamp, dresser, and headboard. These were items I already had and I thought of them whenever I looked at an inspiration picture. Next came the Rifle & Co fabric. I originally was going to go with something a little more vintage delicate rosebuds, but when Reegan saw this one on Etsy she loved it. I want her to love her room so I went for it. It’s the perfect modern play of the English Country vibe.
I added those items and a vintage dresser we owned into Pages and started to play from there. I use the Pages app on my MacBook Pro to create design boards like the one above. It helps me visual each thing next to each other and it’s incredibly easy to use.
Next came the Etsy french light. Julia’s room has my mom’s vintage light in it and I have the lemon light in the laundry room, so I knew my vintage lighting collection was about to grow.
When the light arrived I knew I wanted it to pop on the ceiling and not fade into it. That’s when the idea came to do an accent ceiling.
The hardest part of this room was the curtains. I went through three sets. Three! I thought I was losing it. But I went back to my tried and true Ikea. These Ikea curtains are SO good. AND under $40 for a pair of 98” panels. I ordered 2 sets (2 panels total) to cover the double window. The curtains cover roughly 8 feet of the wall. They are completely black outlined and the fabric is so rich feeling. I would buy these again in a heartbeat. Ikea nails it once again.

Fabric Wallpaper Closet
This method of applying fabric wallpaper is completely damage free to your walls. It’s a renter’s dream. I have done it five times now and can not stop myself. Not only does it add color and texture to your space, but when you take it down you can use the fabric all over again however you want. Hello nursery accent wall to sweet throw pillows! Yes. 1,000x yes.
Blue Accent Ceiling
Possibly my favorite thing in the whole house right now is Reegan’s Farrow & Ball Oval Room Blue ceiling. It is so elegant and elevated while making the room incredibly comfortable. I went over what paint we used and how to get the perfect painters tape lines in our accent ceiling post.
Adding Foot Buns to Your Boxspring
I wanted to keep Reegan’s bed low to the ground, but on the floor looked like a dorm room. I grabbed these wooden bun feet on Amazon and they gave the perfect 5” lift to the bed without me having to spend hundreds on a new bed frame. I plan on wrapping the box spring in fabric soon. Making an entirely custom platform bed on a dime.
