Asheville | Planning Your Weekend Trip!

Jeff and I decided last minute to go to Asheville, NC. We’ve been talking about it since moving to Atlanta 2.5 years ago, and we kept putting it off. Finally we decided, his parents were going to be in town, we had child care, we booked it and took off.

We had from Sunday to Tuesday, and it was a glorious 48 hours. Honestly, I could’ve stayed another day or 5, but babies and life called us home. We can’t wait to get back!

Here are my favorite places from our weekend trip to Asheville, NC!!

Hotel

The Foundry Hotel: The Foundry Hotel was the absolute perfect place to stay. This Hilton Hotel is perfectly central, gorgeous, quiet, and the bar was one of my favorite places on the trip. The bar tenders are so incredibly talented. Lighting cups on fire, bringing herbs from their garden type of incredible. I would stay there twice a year if I could. If I could just own one of those rooms, I would. Even if you aren’t staying there, go grab a drink at the bar and hang out. We got into wonderful conversations and felt right at home.

Breweries

Wicked Weed Funkatorium : I realized I love sours on this trip, but the Wicked Weed Funkatorium was my favorite. It was the mixology of beers. The food looked great, the service was lovely, and you can grab 3 ounce pours. My favorites were: Dulcifera and Brettabolic

Burial Brewery: This place plays death metal at a volume I’m not used to, but the beers are great and the patio is so cute. I highly suggest stopping by, We had the pretzel bites and they were so delicious.

New Belgium Brewing: Their location is a quick drive, but so so so gorgeous. We stopped in after White Duck Taco on the way to the hotel and the view of the river was remarkable. We waved to rafters and sipped on delicious beer. They have tours and food trucks. Stop in.

Food

The Corner Kitchen: Applewood Smoked Tempeh! There’s nothing more exciting for this newly plant based lady to sit down and see multiple options to it that aren’t just an array of weird sides. The Corner Kitchen is a must stop. We stayed in North Asheville, and this was maybe 10 minutes away by car but worth the quick drive. The area that the Corner Kitchen is in is much more quiet than the North Side. It has Chicos, William Sonoma, and The Omni. I would say drive down to eat there, but stay on the North Side. The Bloody Marys were also spot on.

Bhramari: This is actually a brewing company but they had the best burger I have ever tasted and it was vegan. Jeff said the same about their house burger and talked about it the entire next day. They had a cool vibe, great beers, and seriously insane burgers.

White Duck Taco Shop: More vegan options! You can actually get any taco with jackfruit instead of meat. I decided to have a fish taco and a Banh Mi Tofu taco and they were incredible. They also have a Fresh Lime Coconut Margaritas. They are basically Pina Coladas having a margarita baby. You could probably split one just to taste it. Go to the one by the river. The view from the picnic tables is the fastest way to escape life. Watching people tube down the river, while you have a beer and a taco, is a solid win.

Button & Co. Bagels: Don’t skip this! On our way out of town we stopped at Button & Co. for a bagel and a coffee. Legit bagels. So so so delicious. I did get fish one more time because I’m a sucker for lox. Their Classic Gravlax bagel hit the spot. I recommend getting it on a salt bagel. You can even order them for pick up if you have someone that wants to bring the bagels back to the hotel while you get ready.

Asheville Honorable Mentions:

  • Asheville Brewing had me break my dairy detox with fried cheese curds. Most times, if I cheat on the plant based life- it’s not worth it. Um. These were ridiculously incredible.
  • We had dinner at The Blackbird on our last night. I ordered Peppers, which was under vegan meals, and I legit got a plate of 40-50 peppers, salted like edamame. Honestly, I ate them all and it was delicious.
  • Asheville Hardware was stunning if you are a nerd like us. We spent at least an hour there looking at wood slabs. I really tried to bring some home, but Jeff stood strong. Although we almost left with a router.
