Fels-Naptha | The Do All Bar of Brown Soap

For literally years my Mother-in-Law has talked about “brown soap”.; and for as long as I can remember, she has been bringing us bars of Fels-Naptha to use for various reasons.

I never paid much attention to the soap, until I slowly realized that it does everything.

There are a few inexpensive items you should always have on hand as an adult; Fels-Naptha is one of those things.

Head to the store and buy the $1-2 bar of soap and then get ready to be really excited about some adult-stuff.

1| Bug Bite Remedy! This is the first introduction I had to Fels-Naptha. When I get bug bites, I’m usually covered in several of them and they swell up to the size of a quarter. I have always struggled with bites, and have scars from itching or shaving over them. If you dampen a bar of Fels-Naptha and rub the corner over the bite, leaving the soap residue on you, it will dry up the bite and reduce the irritation quickly.

2| Bug (or Deer!) Repellent. You can cut up inch chunks of the bar and place them around the around you would like to keep pest free. Be sure not to make it where it would leak into the roots of any favorite plants. But if you have a patio, It’s a great helper.

3| Brighten Your Laundry. I told a friend of mine about Fels-Naptha for her daughters bug bites, and she said, “Oh! I have that! I grate it into my laundry.” Um… what? It’s most known use is… bing bing bing… laundry. I now keep a cheap cheese grater and a bar of Fels-Naptha by my washer. I grate some in, let it soak, and the whites come out whiter.

4| Stains. If you got to witness this fun moment in my life (lipstick incident shown above), you will be thrilled to know that rubbed a damp bar of Fels-Naptha and then grating it into the load saved the sheets. The duvet I gave up on. But for grass stains, baby spit up, wine, ink… Rub the brown bar onto the stain and soak.

5| Pimples. Fels-Naptha is not super skin safe, so I wouldn’t go washing your face on the regular with this bar; but if you have a deep pimple or white head you can use it as a quick spot treatment. It will suck it dry.

6| All Purpose Cleaner. Aluminum pans, mildew showers, shoes, outdoor furniture. This little bar will be grabbed over and over again. Use it like a magic eraser or dissolve grated pieces into warm water.
