5 Dairy Products to Swap With Plant-Based Options Today

In March 2019, I watched What the Health and never looked back. I’ve been vegan for over two years now and it’s honestly the best decision I ever made. It wasn’t always easy, but eventually, my body started to feel so much better and I never looked back. In the very few times, I have had even dairy, I’ve quickly regretted it. My hands start to ache again and my skin quickly breaks out. If you’re thinking about going vegan or even just eating more plant-based foods, here are five products that will help you get started!

Going plant-based can seem overwhelming before you start.

Go slow. If everything you eat is a choice, you are ridiculously lucky. And in that, just go choice by choice with gratitude. Don’t worry about NEVER AGAINs and FOREVERs. What are you grabbing for lunch?

Start there.

There are several immediate switches that eased me into a plant-based life.

Ripple Milk.

Ripple is a pea protein milk that is easily accessible at your local grocery store or Target. It’s lactose-free, cholesterol-free, and contains high-quality proteins to keep you fueled throughout the day. Ripple has an appealingly light flavor profile that offers a much refreshing change from your typical vegan milk, perfect for coffee or smoothies alike!

I have been drinking Ripple for 3.5 years. When Reegan transitioned from exclusively breastfeeding to food, I was looking for a non-dairy option. Ripple is a pea protein. So even on days, she wants to live off of crackers, I know she’s secretly getting veggie goodness. I was a soy person myself but made the switch with her. When we started drinking it, it was only at Target. Now it’s everywhere and getting better pricing as well!

Sour Cream.

Tofutti is possibly the only swap that actually evenly substitutes for me. Using Tofutti in tacos, or as a dip, you can’t tell the difference at all. It’s a great substitute. I would skip their “cream cheese”. But the sour cream is perfection. We are never without it.

365 Plant-Based Mozzarella.

It melts!!! If you have tried faux cheese, you know melting is an issue. Whole Foods has figured it out. This is a yummy swap for making pizzas.

So Delicious Coconut ‘Yogurt’.

Most of the yogurts failed the kid test. But the So Delicious peach option is really delicious. Both of the girls love it and never spot the difference. It’s an easy thing for smoothies, granola, or just grab-n-go.

Hellman’s Vegan Mayonnaise.

Ok I lied, this swap is an even swap no one will notice at all. Eggs are the hardest thing for me to give up (in everything, and I love a good ramen egg) so swaps like this mayo are really helpful. Link here because it’s not pictured.

BONUS

Healthy Aldi Kid Snacks!

When I went plant-based, I also became an Aldi lover. Produce is usually cheaper and they have a lot of options. While there, I found these fantastic baby substitutes for the pricey name-brand favorites.

Aldi Baby Puffs. Aldi puffs are a fraction of the price of the name brand alternatives. If you live near an Aldi, stock up. These things FLY in my house.

Green Pea Crisps. These are so easy for school lunches or car trips.

Faux Cheetos. That’s what we call them at least. These munchers are well priced and not so bad for your littles.
